High Country Motor Lodge
High Country Motor Lodge is one of my personal favorite stays. It is a redone motel located on Historic Route 66. In its previous life it was a Howard Johnson and Days Inn. They put a lot of work into this place and made it into a perfect getaway located two hours from Phoenix. It offers a sense of nostalgia, while also providing a cozy ambience that makes you want to connect with nature. This Hotel is truly for everyone and you won’t want to miss staying here.
Location, Size, and Price Point:
Located in Flagstaff Arizona. This hotel is perfect for nature lovers who love a little bit of luxury and vintage style. Right along historic Route 66 this hotel offers an elevated yet casual stay for all travelers. This property holds 123 rooms including three cottages and two junior suites. Prices at High Country Motor Lodge might be the most reasonable I’ve ever seen. It is super affordable for the experience you get. I saw prices for booking as low as $103/night. For a more spacious stay you can stay in the cottage for $329/night. This hotel offers several deals listed on their website so make sure you check those out because it can save you a lot of money! I’ve seen the cabin for as low as $260/night. Booking directly through their site is definitely the way to go for the best deal. If you are an Arizona Local you can get 10% off as well. Luxury Feel:
Each room has a unique cozy feel. Colors consisting of deep greens, blues, and gold creating a woodsy, mountain escape. The rooms come with a retro tape deck with a collection of mixtapes that fit into the whole atmosphere. It was so nice to be able to put our phones down and listen to some music while getting ready. They also include a tea kettle, mountain style mugs, Copper Cow Coffee and Tea Drops! The bathroom amenities are from Malin +Goetz. They focus on quality ingredients that are gentle enough for sensitive skin. As someone with super sensitive skin I can vouch it stands by its name.
Unique Experience:
To say I’m obsessed with their lounge is an understatement. When I first walked into the lounge I was in love. The inviting lighting and bar just make you want to stay forever. When we first got there we enjoyed a cocktail at the bar and grabbed some of the famous pizza . The lounge also includes a game room featuring cards, board games, and pool table. You can enjoy a pizza and beer while enjoying games with friends and family.
Whether you are there for winter or summer they have amenities for you to enjoy. In the summer they have a beautiful pool you can spend the day sunbathing. At night after dinner you can hang out on the deck sitting by the fire or enjoying a movie night offered by the hotel. If you plan on coming in the Winter they offer a unique Nordic Spa Experience where you alternate between cold and hot temperatures. This is great after a day of skiing or hiking! You do have to pay extra for this experience but I would recommend especially if you plan to hike or do any winter activities.
Drink/Food:
The hotel offers a General Store open from 6am-10pm. They offer breakfast, six-packs, snacks, and amenities for purchase that were featured in the rooms. The bar has happy hour every Tuesday from 3pm-6pm. The bar menu includes craft beer, cocktails, and wine. The general store food menu consists of breakfast options, sandwiches, salads, and Pinsa. Pinsa is a Roman artisan style hand pressed pizza dough. The dough is made from a combination of soy, rice and wheat flour which makes Roman Pinsa a healthier alternative to traditional pizza.
